Abstract

This paper analyzes complementary currencies, their definition, characteristics, typology, current situation, evolution and their influence on the global monetary system. From theoretical approaches, real cases and scientific studies, there are different references highlighting the benefits of complementary currencies and their influence on sustainability at different levels, social, economic and environmental.
