Abstract

In 2009, the educational law of Catalonia (LEC) initiated educational reform in Catalonia. Since then, school management staff has been impelled to exercise new pedagogical and management leadership in their schools. Thus, the directors of Catalan schools are gradually abandoning their role as primus inter pares and are becoming leaders for and promoters of improvement. This transformation, like any organizational change, has given rise to uncertainty and resistance. It is therefore important to identify benchmarks from which to learn. In this regard, Finnish school directors provide a good example of creative leadership, resulting in a collaborative school environment guided by a common goal: the education of Finnish children. This article analyzes, through documentary and legislative review, the change in Catalonia's management model and compares it with Finnish leadership, and describes the social impact of creative leadership.
