Abstract

The present study aims to analyze various cases of innovative behaviour in the third sector which exploit the potential of the new information and communication technologies. The study is divided into several stages. First we list some specific features of innovation in the third sector, which help to understand this innovation in its context. Second, we describe various types of innovation that can be implemented by these sorts of institution and illustrate them with some recent examples. Finally we finish with a series of conclusions and reflections about the need for institutions to plan for innovation at the strategic level and, therefore, focus on it not as something desirable but as a priority.
