Author Guidelines

We accept articles written in Catalan, Spanish, English and French.

· Author identification: in a cover page indicate title (original language, English and Spanish), author(s) name(s), and for each author(s): affiliations and complete mailing and e-mail addresses. In case of collective works, indicate principal contact for editorial correspondence.

· Abstract and key-words: one page with the abstracts (two: English and original language); add 3-6 keywords included on thesaurus, also in English and original language (Consult IEDCYT thesaurus and glossaries online, at http://thes.cindoc.csic.es )

· Main text: The typical article submission is 8.000 words including references and annexes. In special issues and monographs coordinators may establish different lengths. Use New Times Roman, 12 point font, 1.5 space, and page numbers; submissions should use as little formatting as possible. Texts sections and parts will be numbered with a maximum of 3 levels. In case of investigations we recommend to include: 1) problem statement, 2) object of study, 3) theoretical foundation, 4) design and methodology, 5) main results, 6) conclusions.

· Notes: Use numbered footnotes (not endnotes) for necessary substantive observations; it is suggested to reduce their use as much as possible.

· Tables, images, and charts, and other graphic arts should be integrated into the article file in its place (not at the end). If the article is accepted, it could be requested independently in editable format.

· Citations and references: in case of quotations, text will be highlighted in quotes and the authorship reference will be included in brackets, as follows:

  • Bibliographic reference of a long sentence or extract, indicating specific page: (Arhne, 1994:45)
  • A book (Arhne, 1994).
  • An article in a collective book: (Adrich, 1994).
  • An article in a journal: (Biggart and Guillen, 1999).

· Bibliographic references: All manuscripts should follow APA style (Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition, 2009) both in the body of the article and the Reference list, following the examples:

  • [Book] Lareau, A. (2004). Unequal childhoods: Class, race, and family life. Berkeley, CA: University of California.
  • [Edited book] Meyer, D. S. (1999). How the Cold War Was Really Won: The Effects of the Antinuclear Movements of the 1980s. In M. Giugni, D. McAdam, & Ch. Tilly (Eds.), How Social Movements Matter (pp. 182-203). Minneapolis: University of Minnesota Press.
  • [Journal article] Lareau, A., & Horvat, E. M. (1999). Moments of social inclusion and exclusion: Race, class, and cultural capital in family-school relationships. Sociology of Education, 72, 37-53.

For electronic documents reference, consult ISO 690 (classic style manuals and citation of electronic resources).

· Book reviews: Reviews of books published in one of the four languages of RIO (Catalan, Spanish, English and French) are also welcome. Reviews will be evaluated by the editors of RIO.

Editorial Process

Manuscripts should be original and unpublished, and should not be simultaneously submitted for publication in other journals. In the first phase, the Technical Secretariat and the Editorial Board will conduct a general review of the format, quality, and thematic adequacy of the manuscript. They may directly reject manuscripts that do not comply with the publication guidelines, are of noticeably low quality, or do not contribute to the journal's thematic areas, without proceeding to external evaluation. Manuscripts that pass the initial review will be analyzed by external reviewers based on scientific quality criteria, through a confidential and anonymous peer review system (double-blind). The reviewers will issue a report. In case of disagreement between the two reports, the journal's editorial board will request a third evaluation. The Editorial Board will make the final decision based on the reviewers' reports. The maximum period for communicating acceptance or rejection will be 5 months from the receipt of the manuscript.
